I am speechless...
This film is another milestone in my movie watching history. This is my first ever IMAX experience and what a film to choose for an IMAX experience. This sures the first part and it is definitely another example of a second part being better than the first one. If you don't know, part 1 is also one of my favourite sci-fi movies. This was even more overwhelming, awe-inspiring and emotionally investing. I loved the performances of everyone from Timothee Chalamet to Zendaya, Austin Butler, Javier Bardem (who actually brought some humour in this otherwise extremely serious and dark story), Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin, Christopher Walken, Florence Pugh, Lea Seydoux ...sheesh what a legendary cast. Butler and Chalamet however, were the showstoppers. This is also my favourite Zendaya performance as I have never seen her in a gritty role like this one. The production design, costuming, cinematography, lighting, sound design were FUCKING AMAZING. The score by Hans Zimmer was absolutely legendary and gave that epic feel to this massive story. Granted I haven't read the books, I didn't know this film would lean into religion and fundamentalism so much, it felt that the sci-fi world is just a blanket beneath which some extremely powerful themes are explored. The writing, editing and the pacing of it all was almost perfect, like there are no drags or dull moments whatsoever. However, the third act was extremely magical and exhilarating as compared to the rest of the film. The first half still felt like a setup and the establishment of relationships through grandiose filled epic storytelling. Man those visuals are still running in my mind. It is with no second doubt that this is Denis Villeneuve's best film, he is seen roaring in full form behind the camera. For me, this is on par with some of the greatest sci-fi films of all time like Interstellar etc. I would want to watch it again asap.
