Some actual awe striking moments which is hard to do in a sequel set in the same place, with the same creatures- which means there was a lot of deliberate pacing from movie to movie. Within movie, did this need to be as long as it was? I don’t think so. Though I’m happy to know there’s another film coming, so I suppose I’m conflicted about how long I want to be in this universe. Maybe for 2-2.5 hours at a time for as many movies as there are. Close to 3 hours though, sheesh.
The new actors and Zendaya get to do a lot, and make iconic characters out of their roles, especially Z & Austin Butler.
Though darn, there could have been less of the black/brown people and white people contrast - and if you’re going to do brown, make it representative of the brown people you are clearly evoking. Missed opportunity to make amends with a white savior story.
