just had the opportunity to see eoe in theatres and god what a rich piece of art that is. honestly i don’t know how i was ever able to process a film of such visual scale, narrative complexity, and emotional heft on my shitty little high school laptop. watching it again all these years later, on a much more impressive screen, i’m struck by the same sense of sublime awe that i felt as a teen (laptop shittyness apparently notwithstanding). i’m just so glad eva exists. every time i slip back into its messy and abundant universe im reminded of how moving and harrowing and fucking fun making and experiencing art can be, and for that it will always remain one of my all-time favourite pieces of media

watching this in IMAX was such a treat. going from gleefully whispering every one of ian mcdiarmid’s lines of dialogue to fighting back tears watching obi wan and anakin’s epically choreographed battle on mustafar all whilst in the company of cherished childhood friends is what moviegoing is all about 🙏

kiyotaka oshiyama said that this film is a love letter to creatives and it really shows. his (and fujimoto’s) attention to the love, labour, and history folded within an act of creation is palpable in every line of every gorgeous frame. look back is such a special story and this adaptation was faithful and beautiful in all the ways that i hoped it would be, and more. as a fan i couldn’t be happier :)
