Ben Cawthon’s review published on Letterboxd:
The greatest sci-fi film of all time.
Am on way too much of a high rn so here’s some rambling thoughts.
Ofc Villeneuve’s good, we all knew that, but my god were my highest expectations an undershot.
This movie has convinced me that every other movie that costs over 200 million dollars is a money laundering scheme.
“Needs to be seen on the biggest screen possible” is such an overused phrase but I really can not imagine seeing this on anything smaller than an IMAX screen.
Greg Fraser getting this much visual splendor and variety from a series of films that are 90% desert deserves 50 academy awards.
In a league with The Dark Knight in of how stacked the cast is and how there’s consistently career best performances across the board.
Romance in this movie is written way too good for a movie that’s not a romance.
Villeneuve just casually proving he’s one of our greatest action directors as well
Will die happy if this thing gets a Return-of-the-King style sweep at the awards but if Villeneuve isn’t nominated for best director I’ll just die.
Am sure that I will have more to say after my many inevitable rewatches.
