Genuinely would have been so much better had I been able to see half of what was going on… It's not easy being green screen, but, even so Wicked doesn't quite dazzle in the way it wants to, especially thank of its muted colour palette and washed-out backlighting. A bloated, uneven and unwieldy production that packs some early laughs but never soars either as a musical or a fantasy epic. It left me feeling that I probably would have loved this much more had I seen the stage version as the film relegates its thematic strengths to the corner of ironically thoughtless family fun entertainment that seeks to please and assuage. Songs were okay.
