It’s Goon: Part Goon because bitch, I was nutting the entire time. My balls are drier than the sands of Arrakis. If you’ve ever wondered why movie theater floors are so sticky, it’s because of freaks like me.
There are a few things that I found interesting, the first being how they changed the ritual for obtaining the water of life. They seem to have omitted a crucial part that could have major implications for the narrative of God Emperor of Dune and I’m curious to see how that will impact the story, assuming we even get that far in the series.
I was also surprised that this was rated PG-13. I noticed that there was a conspicuous lack of blood, which is surprising since most of the action scenes involved sword fighting, and I’m guessing that was a deliberate choice to keep this from a R rating. The only scene that did have blood was subtly shot in black and white, which made sense for the setting of the fight. It’s a little disappointing that considering how violent the fights feel that there’s a noticeable omission of blood.
The hand to hand combat was shot incredibly. There was a delightful amount of fight sequences that were so well choreographed that Villeneuve wasn’t afraid to shoot them in the wide. Too often fight scenes are shot to close up and edited to shit to the point where you can’t tell what’s happening.
