dominique’s review published on Letterboxd:
i went into this looking for a continuation of part one, but denis delivered even better. he not only executed the highest level of blockbuster filmmaking that also manages to hit all the marks on an artistic level while simultaneously closing a chapter in paul artreides’ life and ushers in a much worse one as paul muad'dib.
i can’t stress enough to watch this in IMAX or on the biggest screen possible. part 2 is more expansive and grander than part 1 in every possible manner. part two has much more world building and far more moving parts to the overall storyline. zimmer’s score complemented with sweeping landscapes ed by stellar cinematography, and thrilling sound design make for a visually stunning adventure. what starts off with two acts comprised of vision of the events to come drastically transforms into a third act that’s larger than life.
timothée flawlessly showcases the natural growth of paul artreides to paul muad’dib. now that he's found himself deciding between his own legacy and vengeance he has a lot more to work with with this character. austin butler for me is the easily the MVP of this movie. portraying a vicious, frightening, and incredibly memorable antagonist. he commands the screen in a terrifying performance as feyd. rebecca ferguson what more can i say about you? delivers a chilling and almost frightening performance and keeping the film afloat at key moments. she’s HER. very strong acting ensemble
go and see this on the biggest screen possible just how it’s supposed to be watched. a technical achievement in every department. chapeau to grieg fraser, hans zimmer, and the entire sound and editing crew.
