I used to watch kids do this at Call of Duty events.

spiritual brother of Nightcrawler. although Théodore Pellerin looks rather like Riz Ahmed his aura is more in line with Jake Gyllenhaal's creep. also reminded me of The Idol in the sense that it tackles modern music industry as place where gen z logic of individualism and belonging are mediated.

that being said the plot construction is hard to bear with. not sure if the problem is a script that wasn't redigated enough by several eyes, or if the problems occurred in the editing room where they might have had too much material and had to cut it down while still enhancing the tension of the story. my money is on thre second take. side characters popping up and out, pacing…

Set in a present-day Los Angeles where everyone is defined not by who they are but by what they do, “Lurker” follows Matthew, who becomes obsessed with pop star Oliver after a chance encounter.

They strike up a friendship and Matthew ends up being a trusted part of Oliver's posse. Oliver even hires him to fim him on his tour. But, obsession turns dangerous when the friendship turns sours.

This is one of those slow burn pictures that continues to sizzle unconformfortably as it goes.

Had a lot of fun with this stalker thriller. The two leads are excellent and especially towards the end have some great chemistry as the power dynamic shifts. As much as I enjoyed it, I found myself wanting more of a twist in the middle once the premise were established. I also didn’t find it resonated much in of theme. But I’d still recommend it as it’s tensely shot, keeps you on your toes, and has some very memorable and funny moments

What's the difference between love and obsession?

Don't know but I was absolutely mesmerized when Archie Madekwe sings about it. I've been following his career since first seeing him in "Midsommar" and even lurking (sorry) on his Instagram. I wanted to see him in a leading role that's not a video game/race car biopic. Director Alex Russell answered my call and made one of my favorite films of 2025 (MUBI will release it in August). A propulsive, unsettling satirical thriller that takes a familiar story but updates it for our current state of cultural decay and decline where followers and "likes" and an artist/entertainer/influencer's "brand" and "image" matter more than any kind of emotional authenticity or artistic truth. Think All About Eve with a dash of Single White Female for the Tik Tok generation.

Would have liked this to explore the intriguing homoerotic subtext a bit more, but that's basically just me being shallow and saying I wish there was more nudity and sex - and with two male leads that look like this, can you really blame me?
