Couldn't resist rewatching this classic, no thanks to Predator: Killer of Killers triggering all sorts of forgotten fandom feelings in me..

Still holds up really well 38 years later. This firmly sets Ryan Coogler as a true auteur filmmaker in my books. I mean Creed and both Black Panthers were great, but they are still just a Rocky boxing sequel and another 2 MCU movies, success already riding on established franchises. Sinners however, was something truly original and unique.

An ambitious screenplay (and not just the technical complexities of having Michael B. Jordan interacting with himself in so many scenes), mish-mash of genres, and deeply layered in so many…
