Does this film live up to the crazy amount of hype it’s been getting? Sorta. Is the best sequel of all time? No. Is it the empire strikes back of the new generation? Maybe?
Let’s start off with the positives (which is basically the whole review) This film exceeds the first one in every single aspect. As someone who thought the first was boring and not as good as some people say. I can guarantee that this film is so much better than the first. The pacing is miles better and so much more entertaining. The acting was good in the first, but it’s on a whole other level in this film. I never thought that cinematography and visuals in the first could be topped. But they are. In this film it’s really quite incredible what they’re able to do. The new characters and the old ones are also spectacular. Timotheé Chalamet is amazing. His seccond best performance in my opinion (Bones and all being number 1) Austin Butler is also one of my favorite new characters, he’s just awesome. The whole star studded cast is absolutely fantastic.
I only have a few negatives. I feel as if Feyd Rautha (the villian) was underutilized and barely had any screen time. In a 2 hour and 46 minutes film. I wish I saw him for more than 15 minutes. I also didn’t like the ending. I get that a common complaint is that the first film had a bad ending and the second had a good one. For me it’s the reverse. I thought the first one had a good ending, and I hated the seccond ones ending. I feel that it ended to abruptly and I’m shocked I’m saying this, but I wish there was an additional 10 minutes. I wish that there was more of a resolution and more time to fully develop the ending. So that’s probably my biggest negative. (The ending)
I also want to add that I saw this film in imax with a huge crowd which totally enhanced my viewing. This is the type of film you have to see with a big crowd and in imax.
Overall, I really liked this film. I’m starting to think it’s a tad bit overhyped and overrated, but it’s still fantastic and so far my favorite film of the year. Now we have to wait 3 years for Dune part 3!
