Has a visually striking and more memorable ape battle royale than this years Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes in which Robbie Williams brutally murders himself as a child; that to my eyes seemed to be referencing John Boorman's 1981 high-fantasy epic Excalibur. Whilst also being a musical number... It's just all so very British.

Amicus Productions was a British film production company, based at Shepperton Studios. Founded by Milton Subotsky and Max Rosenberg. The two producers had worked on a number of films for Vanguard Productions before collaborating on the 1960 horror film The City of the Dead after which they created Amicus, releasing two Teen Musicals; It's Trad, Dad! (1962) and Just for Fun (1963). They returned to Horror with portmanteau films starting with Dr. Terror's House of Horrors (1965). Amicus's genre films are sometimes mistaken for the output of Hammer Film Productions (Rosenberg also produced Curse of Frankenstein), to which they are similar in visual style and with which they share many stars, including Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. Amicus ended in 1977 although Subotsky and Rosenberg continued to produce independently.

"Video Nasty" was a colloquial term coined in the UK in the early 80's to describe movies believed to contain extreme sexual violence and gore (but often didn't). The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) drew up a list which was made public in June 1983 of 72 films.
39 of these were successfully prosecuted under the Obscene Publications Act. Among the many people prosecuted was David Hamilton Grant of World of Video 2000 who was sentenced to 18 months in jail in February 1984. In September 1985 The Video Recordings Act (VRA) was signed into law prohibiting the supply of uncensored/unclassified videos. This is that list (including the 'Video Nasties' and 'Ban The Sadist Videos' documentaries).
