Here’s what I have to say. This franchise is in possession of one of the all-time great American theme songs and for the last two movies, they’ve completely squandered it. In what we’ve been told are the last two 3-hour Mission Impossible movies, we barely hear any of the iconic melody in full. Especially this final movie — a movie which clearly has no problem beating you over the head with exposition, dialogue — it somehow couldn’t beat us over the head with a theme that can function as both playful and exhilarating with real stakes you can feel. And this movie was often a slog! There were points where even just a whiff of the Mission Impossible theme could balance painful exposition with a little fun. But to not even really showcase the theme during the incredible action sequences? Why???? Like, why not just go for it? Why not play the theme in every big stunt scene? It’s baffling to me that this wasn’t done. 

Important note: the lack of score in the submarine sequence was so smart and clearly effective!!

Unrelated but: The very first sound you hear in this movie reminds me of the beginning of “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King” and now you have to hear it, too.

YES YES YES!! This movie made so many cool decisions and I never saw any of them coming (I went in completely cold and am glad I didn't even read the letterboxd logline). Pascal Plante, you have my attention for the rest of my life. I finished it five minutes ago and already wish I could watch it again for the first time. Chloe Ting jumpscare!!!!

RP physicality rivaling that of a silent movie star. If you watch this movie like it’s “Mickey 17 (ALL CUTSCENES | FULL GAME MOVIE)”, you are in for a good time. Can’t wait to see it again at home.

You start to see why these types of documentaries are so easy to parody. Song playing over footage of Nixon...civil rights riots...moon landing...YAWN! It's a shame because these guys, Page especially, were being pretty inventive for the time and deserved a doc to match that.

If they ever made a biopic Led Zeppelin movie a la "Bohemian Rhapsody" I would love to see someone take a big, big fucking swing with it. I'd want the director to throw out the rulebook for "movies about bands" and also the rulebook for "movies." Robert's vocals, of course, are dripping with honest-to-god soul, but the rest of the boys are playing with so much emotion, too. There's a lot to work with, just in the music.

Lots of live footage in this doc but it really bugged me that some of the live footage audio had clearly been replaced with studio audio. Maybe for a seasoned fan, you'd be okay with it because you'd seen enough footage on your own. But for someone who ittedly had a bit of a Zeppelin blindspot, I found it frustrating.

That being said, I had a nice little time.

decades since i've seen this. i forgot how the strength of this movie lies almost squarely with Caine's ability to commit and remind us he's one of the finest actors we have!

The way they show that time has ed in the beginning of this movie is so funny that it is worth pressing play on this garbage. Obviously not a good movie but Ian Harding is charisma-ing circles around everyone. I was fully charmed by him. Brief moments where I thought Lindsay Lohan still had the juice. She almost gets there but never quite makes it.

This movie will make enough money to ensure more movie musicals get made, and I'm happy about that. But I hope future movies aim for the singular, ephemeral magic that makes theater so special & not something made in the hope of becoming the next Harry Potter franchise.
