DUNE: PART TWO is exactly what I was waiting for after enjoying part one of DUNE back in 2021. Don't call this movie a sequel. This is the 2nd half of the Dune story that picks up where part one left off. If you haven't seen or revisited the first part of Dune, you're going to feel lost. For me, I'm so glad Frank Herbert's Dune was released in two parts. For a complex sci-fi story, Denis Villeneuve did a great job at making this story accessible. Part one was about Paul Atriedes and his quest to get to Arrakis and team up with the Fremon.

In Part two, it continues Paul's journey towards being Paul Mau'dib and the soon the Messiah. This part is not about the hero saving a group of people from evil taking over their planet. Its more about a quest for power. This takes a turn that had me thinking if this is what I after seeing David Lynch's Dune since both this movie and Lynch's Dune end the same way. What this movie did much better was it still kept the complex world of Herbert's book but made it work as a big screen epic film. I know some will be a little puzzled by the direction it goes. There were some sections where things did feel rushed and also some elements like the "water of life" needed more time to develop.

This is also a really long movie at two hours and 48 minutes. The pacing isn't as strong as part one. However, I think having it be a little slower did work at times. It kept me engaged throughout and if you can see this in IMAX, it’s one of the best IMAX movies I've ever seen. I don't know if I can think of a better performance by Timothee Chalamet but he's incredible as Paul. Just seeing Paul's journey from both of these Dune movies shows how great Chalamet is. The other cast like Javier Bardem, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson and a creepy performance by Austin Butler are excellent. I glad Zendaya had more to do here since she was more in Paul's visions in part one

It took awhile for me to see this. I don't know if any other movies coming to IMAX can be as awesome as Dune Part Two. I hope it won't take long for Dune Messiah to come out but I'll wait another 3 years for it.
