It could have been another 5 star film but… The story continues seamlessly from the first installment of Dune. Exceptional build up as Paul Atreides navigates his path as Muad’Dib and eventually declares himself to be Lisan al Gaib. The visuals are again breathtaking and enveloping. The addition of Feyd Rautha introduces a powerful adversary and a thrilling combat scene to determine the future of the empire. Timothee Chalamet delivers an even more inspiring performance as other characters revolve around him.
Now, why 4.5 stars? It’s painful to say, but the moment that Christopher Walken was revealed to be the Emperor the near perfection of the film was lost for me. It went one step too far in the casting of so many high profile actors. It just didn’t work in my opinion. He did a better job as the infamous Feng in Balls of Fury than the Emperor in this film. To be honest I haven’t decided who should have been cast for the role, but the choice of Christopher Walken (I’m a huge fan of so many of his film roles) led me to downgrade the overall rating by 1/2 star…
Blasphemy or deserved? 🤔
