If Clifford the Big Red Dog was a spider with an insatiable hunger for flesh of any kind
This was pretty fun albeit pretty predictable. Everything felt very late90s/early-2000s, especially the dialogue and camera work. Cool special effects; Weta Workshop does no wrong
Also, it feels like they really squandered the R rating. There was not a lot here that warranted it outside of the F-bombs. Definitely could've gotten a bit gnarlier with the blood and gore
Some of the early reviews had me nervous, but I still ended up really liking this! Some of the more gratuitous fan service really threw me off, but most of the other nods to the rest of the franchise I found to be pretty fun
It definitely played things pretty safe and arguably has the least originality compared to what came before it of any of the other movies, but the third act (which I did enjoy) had enough new to it to satisfy me!
I have once again gone to my local, small town theater, now with a safer number of 3 total people in the theater and 5 within the entire building. This time: The Two Towers.

I actually liked this more than I thought I would! While I like horror a ton, I don't typically like gore that much. This was still pretty gross at times, but it felt more like pulpy, "fun" gore, rather than something trying to be super realistic, so it was a little more up my alley
Seeing things from the POV of the killer made things super interesting and while that definitely causes the movie to be slow most of the time, I thought the pacing allowed for just the right amount of tension to build multiple times throughout the movie
