Dune: Part Two

Best movie where a woman in a wicker basket rides a giant sandworm into a sand storm.

"Spice is power"

Denis Villeneuve's Dune series may be the best book adaptation of all time. With source material that is so difficult to adapt and one that has been known to be 'unportrayable' on screen, he was somehow able to do it with clear ion and knowledge behind the lens. This is probably the best "epic" adaptation since The Lord of the Rings trilogy. If not for anything else, the insane scope of this film is something so rare and so hard to do well, yet I'm in awe at it. There are some scenes that feel like they could've been longer, but with a story this size in scope, it is hard to give every character/beat the proper treatment without the movie being an extra 2 hours long (which personally I would've welcomed). There were some slight changes from the book as well, nothing Arrakis shattering but I think they worked for how the story is told. Although I can see the real book purists getting upset at either how he handled Alia or the Bene Gesserit (specifically their motivations). Some changes I also think made the Dune world even better, without getting too much into it I think how the Fremen in the North vs the South have there differences in culture which totally makes sense with the amount of them that there are. There HAS to be a Dune: Messiah Denis has perfectly set up for it, no way WB says no.

It's one of those movies that I think people will enjoy but also be left with wanting more answers/explanations. Particularly some of the world-building aspects, as some important things are just briefly mentioned or are assumed the audience already understands. I encourage people to read the first Dune book before seeing this movie if you haven't already. It is not about the book or movie being better than one another but rather the book seriously complements it. With getting so much more detail on the lore you can only get in a novel will really help you understand and appreciate the film a lot more. Denis treats the film like the audience is part of its' world, we already know the used and how the society works. I can only imagine the endless confusion and questions one might have about the film if you don't have any background knowledge on the lore. I can also see a casual viewer being disappointed in the ending as, like the first film, it ends sort of abruptly, and leaves a lot to be desired, just like the first book. However, if Denis gets the green light for a part 3 and final conclusion, which seems very likely more and more each day, then it'll set aside some of that disappointment.

I gotta know if the Harkonnens look was based off the 'Strangers' In Dark City and also how did they get so many people on the worms at once? Especially when they had people in baskets and loads of equipment.
