I get the desire to dog on the British but it’s a bummer that the whole conversation about Robbie Williams is overshadowing the first musical biopic that’s taken real creative risks - risks that pay off beautifully! - and offers an unflinching and frankly unflattering look at why people pursue fame and how destructive it can be. The choice to portray Robbie Williams as a literal dancing monkey elevates the story from the personal tell all that it very much is, into a grand allegorical fable. Honestly, I was not expecting this to be my kind of thing at all but it rocks.
