Brutal this one difficult to watch at points. Certain points bordered on going over the line a bit for me but I also think maybe in comparison to a lot of other stuff it’s no where near as egregious so difficult for me to say really. Was super unsure at the start but became more and more taken with it as it went on. Musical wise the songs used to accent the story rather than push it along. The set design and use of colour brilliant in this. A really great example of what’s great cast can bring once it played it’s hand about the lies we tell ourselves and each other I really was pulled in fully. Very melancholic hard to put my thoughts fully into words but blown away all told.

Steeped in storytelling tradition spirituality to Blues to cinema itself. Got a premise right out of exploitation cinema but with Blockbuster sensibility. Hell of a cast but it’s the new blood Miles Caton who runs away with this beating heart of the film. Such a sense of shared history here that first hour so essential just builds and builds…
