the frenetic camera here is most reminiscent of THE EVIL DEAD, but is that exact same excitement of creation that has informed all of fessenden’s films. like those, this is not very scary but instead surprisingly moving, really a movie about the ways in which we try to understand and take control of nature(s), whether it’s the plants or the animals or people and our own animalistic destructive actions. this is also of a piece with fessenden’s work in that is very political and about the way that evil slowly bubbles up everywhere around you until it’s knocking at your front door.
