Both heartwarming and stressful, this beautiful film amazed me on a technical level.

With no dialogue at all, it relies on the animal sounds and expressions along with the angles to explore their respective feelings and cooperation, showing the visual nature of film which is sometimes forgotten.

I also really liked how the cat and the crane are portrayed in this, definitely the most interesting characters in the film! The visuals and the animation style are beautiful too. Really charming.

for a movie with such a bold premise it's actually astounding how uninspired this is. fails at being a musical, the songs are bad, fails at being a crime thriller, fails at being a drama. it doesn't really care for its characters and it doesn't know what direction to even follow. not memorable

Entertaining until it stops being that and just turns into a suffocating mess -- suffocating both for the audience and for the characters. I wasn't really sure what to expect from this in of characters, narrative and themes before entering the film, but whatever this was, it was frustrating.

Title character is turned into an ory, thrown around by the narrative and the other characters that show up during the entire Finding Vanya sequences. She is suffocated, her character isn't allowed to breathe, being confined by whatever else is going on in the screen. We see Ani be frustrated, yell, be sad, yet all of it says nothing about her or her feelings.

This part has its fun moments, but it seems so directionless (as does the film itself) and messy that it is just completely overwhelming. The humor is also very hit or miss throughout the entire film.

Back to Ani, we don't see a lot of her motivations or feelings -- she laughs at Vanya for being bad in bed and then for actually asking to marry her, but then she expects him to actually stay and goes along with the people trying to search for him. We see her do this but the film has no interest in showing why she does this or how she feels throught the entire relationship and situation. Instead, it shows more everything else about the rest of the characters, focusing its attention in them. Only by the end does it try to say something and make sure people see it, but fails in doing so.

The ending turns up feeling very misguided. It could be saying something about Ani finally having a choice, doing something because she wishes for it, but that rapidly turns into showing she is broken in a very uninteresting way. Instead of letting the audience (and the character herself honestly) see how she was affected by the relationship with Vanya, the whole ordeal with his parents, how that affects her relationshop with herself, the film focuses on Igor to try to tell us something about Ani. She is portrayed as exagerated, overreacting, crazy, and then by the end the film uses Igor in order to make Anora's feelings tangible to the audience.

In all honestly the film just feels so directionless and confused on what it is doing or trying to say. It just says nothing at all and falls flat, characters end up being reduced to stereotypes that don't even work. I'm really interested to see what other people liked in this and how it worked for them because sadly this wasn't the case for me and I left this just feeling frustrated. From my side though, there's still a lot of positive things -- highlighting Mikey Madison's performance here -- and there's some really funny and entertaining moments.

If you haven't watched this go watch it already because you are missing out! Incredibly beautiful and raw portrayal of the brutal military dictatorship in Brazil through the lens of a family that is a victim of this violence. Have no words really, just so many thoughts, the direction in this is great and I love how the camera and the mixtures of film work so well on this and are able to get so many emotions out there. Also serves as a way to preserve memory and show the time ing. Too affected by this to write anything coherent honestly.

I thought that the last super 8 montage would make me cry already but I was wrong and somehow just started bawling after that. Even the credits on this hit you so much. If you know me I have a hard time crying with films even if I love them and they make me feel lots of emotions but this was crazy. A mix of rage and sadness really.

I didn't expect to be so interested in the pope elections as I call them but here we are! Really liked the atmosphere on this one, and the way all of these men are so petty and full of themselves is wonderfully showed on screen. The contrast between what the church is supposed to be versus what it is in reality is not only achieved through the power play involved but also the traits of each character (seriously, the smoking on this cracked me up). Isabella Rosselini has such a grip on every scene she's in. I like how the film also highlights the crisis of faith some of the characters go through, it makes them have more depth and also shows how religion should actually be approached even inside the instititutions -- priests, cardinals, religious leaders and those who study it can't just accept without thinking, the struggle itself is part of understanding their own faith and religion better.

why was i allowed to watch this at age 10

More enjoyable than I expected (genuinely had a good time watching it) but its flaws just make me wish I was watching a play instead.

The lighting and colour grading has been talked to death but it seriously makes a lot of scenes lose their liveliness and overshadows the set and costume design. This didn't need to be so long also.

Feeling slightly conflicted on this one because while I enjoyed it overall I just kept thinking about the execution itself, there’s some stuff that doesn’t land for me. I’ll have to agree with what people are saying about the last part of the film though, it really did feel out of place for me in a sense? Extremely gross film I am genuinely impressed by the makeup and special effects, loved that

Y'all, I made it. Asked Viggo Mortensen, my favorite film person of all time, a question in real life, and he answered it looking directly in my eyes and keeping eye the whole time. Absolutely insane, this feels like a dream. He loves his craft so much and is such an introspective dude but he is so chill and sweet and nice in real life honestly.

Obviously this will be a bit biased but I enjoyed this. I'll be honest with you guys for the first 20 minutes I was slightly disconnected from the film because all I could think about was how I had JUST SEEN Viggo Mortensen on stage (two rows in front of me, absolutely insane!) and he had ed RIGHT NEXT TO ME. Anyway. The timeline starts a bit messy as its non linear but we quickly realize it has to do with flashbacks and is obviously non linear story telling. I really like the first part of the movie I'll be honest with you the vibes are just amazing. Maybe it's because I was watching it with Viggo in the room (and occasionally looking to the back of the room and seeing him standing up seeing the film hihihihi) but it was just so warm.

Onto criticism, I'd say the weakest part of the film is around the second half. I think for a film with a female lead, her character could still have been explored more in depth. I think it ends up being more about how people and in this case a woman in the "wild west" deal with conditions around them, but I would have enjoyed seeing more emotions from her, internal conflict, etc than just the day to day life after what happens. There's also some things that don't really get resolved by the ending or storylines that I lost thread of but that might just be me not fully paying attention in the beginning.

Major props to all the landscape scenes, they are beautiful, man clearly loves nature lol. Love Vicky Krieps in this also. Soundtrack (composed by viggo) is great. Not an insanely amazing film by all means but I'm so happy that Viggo gets to make more films I'm very interested on how he is going to develop his directing in the next years!

Again it's so crazy how I saw him. He POINTED AT ME !!!!! so I could have the mic. He listened to my question. He maintained eye . I am going crazy.😭😭😭 At this point this is more of a leffest diary than a proper review but I have to let my feelings out somewhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway looking forward to rewatching this again sometime! Also need to get more into Westerns (I asked Viggo about that and how he thought the western could evolve in the future) and especially other non-traditional/unconventional westerns.

For now this is between a 3.5/5 and a 4/5 but I am giving it the 4 for Viggo

The tiny subtitles at the venue weren't helping me, someone with glasses who travelled 3 hours for this, but I'm very glad that I got to see this. I think I'll need to sit on it for multiple reasons but I really hope I can rewatch it later (April 2025 thanks david) because it takes time to digest more than previous films of his honestly. Funnier than I was expecting? I went into this thinking it was more serious in a sense and that I would have felt way wayyyyyyy more uncomfortable during the film but the humour was unexpected for me.

Some of this is a bit confusing and incoherent honestly and there are one or two bits that I have a bit of an issue with (I don't know what it was aiming at and it could be very conflicting honestly) but this is an important film in many ways and has a lot of interesting ideas. Most importantly I totally understand why Cronenberg did it and it's very exciting to see this ideas on screen.

The Q&A was lovely on David's part he was a sweetheart and very funny, although he couldn't hear some stuff properly at times (POTENT) he still did his best to try to understand and to respond to everything that was asked. I'm a bit sad I didn't get to ask my question (it was right there man😭) but hearing Cronenberg speak was very cutesy.

This is between a 3 and a 3.5

No strong feelings on this even though it's a very emotional film. Some very well directed scenes here that I really enjoyed and I liked how the characters' relationship was portrayed. I also enjoyed how Almut's motivations where presented by the end of the film but I just feel like there's something missing in the film overall. I don't really have much to say about it other than it's sad and well made and you'll probably enjoy it if you need a good cry!

not so fun fact: during some sad scene a phone in the audience started ringing and playing despacito

confusing. confused. headstrong. antiquated. pushing forward. flowing with new ideas. ambitious. madness. dystopian. juvenile. naive. hopeful. reactionary?
many contradicting words and ideas that come to my head when thinking about this film but none of them can accurately describe this film. i have no idea what to think of it honestly. just find it an incredibly ambitious project that is a man's work and i'm wondering how it even got made. lots creative and experimental shots but i dont think they quite work. sometimes the film touches on something really good but then immediately backs down from that. a lot of stuff being said and discussed that is purely superficial (not when that's supposed to be criticized). lots of parallels to be made and i think the way rome is treated and portrayed is probably central to the discussion of the film (eg. aesthetic wise, the ideas that are represented) but I'm too confused on all of this to even think about concrete things. just see for yourself honestly.

how the FUCK was this made. unbelievably ahead of its time for a film so deeply connected with its historical context, post-war trauma & imagination of hope after the war.

Tentei escrever e escrever sobre este filme mas nenhuma frase parece boa e fiel o suficiente. Poderia dizer que o filme é muito português, um filme de saudade, paisagens e histórias que certamente são familiares a muitos de nós, mas é muito mais que isso; tal como visto no filme, a saudade não é exclusivamente de uma nacionalidade, é partilhada independente do país e língua que se fala.

A primeira parte do filme foca-se mais na personagem Manoel, uma representação do realizador, visitando os lugares da sua memória que já se foram há muito tempo, degradados ou destruídos, com as filmagens da estrada e a música dando sempre a ideia de abandonar o ado, de algo não poder voltar a ser como fora.

A segunda parte retrata então a chegada de Afonso à pequena aldeia de onde o seu pai era originário, e dá-se a dificuldade de comunicação com a família que permaneceu em Portugal, mas que termina em entendimento e partilha, uma parte dominada também por um sentimento de saudade, abandono e isolamento dos locais.

É difícil tentar por em palavras o que este filme faz sentir, é um filme que funciona muito bem, quase uma caixa de recordações em formato de filme mas mais profundo que isso. Certamente tem muitos outros temas que não consigo abordar aqui, mas o filme é muito tocante e recomendo imenso.

This was fun but also feels a bit of nostalgia bait at some points, I wish the characters would have been developed better because a lot of arcs where resolved too quickly and without any time for impact. I wanna watch the original now tho

So i found out my flight had a screen and it had lotr in it (theatrical) so yayyyy i watched it but i couldnt finish the last 20 mins 😔😔 love this so much though crazy how well it still holds up esp design and lighting. couldnt make it today honestly

Unsettling. Distorted images of a house taken from unusual angles, the imponent static hiss and the slightly perceivable music create a feeling of a home that contrasts with the dreary feelings pushed by the images. Kinda like the feeling of going to a familiar place (music, warm tones, family imagery) yet everything feels different and unusual (hiss, angles, dark, empty space). Looking forward to more films from Olive!!

Made me feel many things, very bleak and raw experience. I like how there is a certain "role reversal" in this film - at first, Eva seems meek and small in comparison to her mother, who attracts all attention to herself and suffocates the screen; when the confrontation is held, mom and daughter reverse their roles, with Eva standing taller than her mom, filmed from a lower angle and leading the argument, confronting Charlotte about her behaviour during her childhood; Charlotte is on the ground, vulnerable, filmed from above. The representation of trauma and abandonment in this film is accomplished amazingly with clever camera angles and narrative styles. Really loved watching this in the cinema, very emotional watch.

I have more to say about this film but I need to organize my thoughts better, so have some details for now!

will need to rewatch cuz i was rly rly rly tired and sleepy tonight so i wasnt in my best attention but this is different from other cronenberg films in a very interesting way.

the loneliness shallowness or self obsession the characters have contrasting w the economics conversations stood out to me in this, showing human connection deteriorating in capitalism, at least from my current understanding of the film

Insufferable. Glad the power of friendship saved the day in this because in my real life being with my friends was the only bearable part of this movie.

Deadpool is supposed to be the character that always breaks the 4th wall, does metajokes and comedic replies, but how am I supposed to take that information when absolutely nothing is funny and they managed to make the antihero's whole shtick worn out and tired not even 1 hour into the film? The jokes don't land, most of them are the easiest jokes anyone could think of, it is devoid of any creativity or diversity in humour.

After I watched this, a friend of mine who had watched the film earlier told me it was fun because it is a satire that is criticizing the current state of the MCU and the people involved in it. But how can it be successful as a satire if it falls into the exact same issues that make the MCU the way it is, full of problems? You can't just have a character say one or two things criticizing executives and marvel and act like that is a good criticism and then have the entire film work exactly in the opposite of the criticism you're trying to make. Even then, who are these jokes for? Shitty execs and producers can all laugh at themselves. What are we achieving with this? Fans who hate it, yet continue to watch and give money to them? It doesn't achieve anything other than an attempt at being like "Hey guys, look how cool we are, poking fun at the big guys!!!". Absolutely no one will be affected by that.

The reason why this falls into the exact problems that the MCU currently has is because it is overly reliant on nostalgia bait. Again, who is this for? Aren't the fans tired by now? Why keep showing the same things over and over again, then make fun of it, just to do it again instead of bringing new stories to the screen? Why bring so many Avengers related stuff and actors and references just to please the fans? It's so tired by now.

Moving on to the non comedic aspects, it turns somewhat bearable during the second half of the film, but it is indistinguishable from any other marvel production. It is plainly boring for a film that wants to be entertaining. Even worse for an action film from a company that praises themselves for how cool their action is -- it was a slog to go through.

The best part of this is just Deadpool and Wolverine's relationship, it gives some fun to the movie but even then it feels so shallow and like not really many things happen. Even though something is always happening on screen.

Just a slog. Insufferable. Not entertaining at all, it's just sad to watch honestly. How is this relevant in any way, shape or form? What is this movie trying to do or point out? I can only see someone enjoying this if they really like the characters involved because otherwise it just gets tired so quickly.

At least I got to be a hero (pun intended) in this screening by opening the seemingly locked theater door for my friend and a dad with his kids who needed to go outside. Also this was on ScreenX and we had no idea it was but it doesn't add anything to the film if you are considering watching it in that version. But hey, at least I got to spend time with my friends who I hadn't seen in months, love yall <3

i actually loved this

Fun and entertaining, Gosling and Blunt carry this highlighting their respective characters. I wasn't expecting this to go full action assassin film but that was a nice plot. Liked the focus on the stunt performers and the character dynamics. It has a few fun gags but after a while it starts getting too obnoxious and stuck on itself for my taste, too referencial and repetitive.
Additionally, for a film about how some people in the industry are absolute dicks, it's really in bad taste to include jokes about real life domestic abuse, I don't know who thought that was a good idea to have in the script.
