gerard butler is SO fucking bad in this, he ruins what could have been an average heist flick. wouldn't be surprised if there was a storyline cut where his character was a recovering addict. he's popping off all over the place, like al pacino's "great ass" scene in heat inspired him. exhausting.

A fun, funky time

Ain’t no way Bill & Co aren’t hitting their big hats on every single doorway.

As for the movie, of course a Scorsese directed flick about oldey timey NYC ne’er-do-wells is going to be entertaining. Danny DL is the whole f’ng show. But the final confrontation is pretty disappointing.

Aaju Peter deserves a film that matches her strength as a human being.

Bears witness to the real lives of refugees. Sometimes it’s best when a film cuts down on the frills and let the subjects speak for themselves. Straightforward and heart breaking.

Three hours of people doing their best to not explicitly say “James Cameron is an asshole”. It also suffers from a dearth of footage of said asshole, explaining his vision/justifying his behavior. What you’re left with is people detailing how they made a great movie (and they did) with a pall of ptsd on their faces.

The summer I graduated high school, the movie that captured that feeling of bored middle class white ennui on display here was Can't Hardly Wait. The following year I was already rolling my eyes at that stupid "Wear Sunscreen" song.

Point is, my arm is tired from shaking it at clouds.

Clever, and at 3 minutes? Worth my time. Probably worth yours. Oh you doubt it? You're on LB right now don't insult me!

Wisely stays away from trying to replicate the original. And because it was made in the 80s, it means more, more, MORE EVERYTHING! Guns, catchphrases, you name it. It's now part of the decade's mainstream macho culture, of Predator and the like, albeit one with a female badass protagonist. Expertly made yet I found it to feel more of its time than the original. I miss the scrappy weirdness.
