Wow. Just wow. Austin Butler said he toned down his method acting to play Feyd-Rautha. "I've definitely in the past, with Elvis, explored living within that world for three years, and that is the only thing that I think about day and night. With Feyd, I knew that would be unhealthy for my family and friends. So I made a conscious decision to have a boundary. It allowed for more freedom between action and cutting because I knew I was going to protect everybody else outside of the context of what we were doing. That's not to say that it doesn't bleed into your life. But I knew that I wasn't going to do anything dangerous outside of that boundary, and in a way that allowed me to go deeper." Denis Villeneuve said, "When the camera was on, it was like you were possessed. When the camera was off, you were still maybe 25 or 30% Feyd. Just enough to still be present and focused, but removed enough that you didn't kill anybody on set."

Paul Atreides: “I’M POINTING THE WAY!!”
Dune: Part Two is one of the defining movie theater experiences for me now. This 100% lived up to the hype and delivered on the epic promise of its predecessor, blending stunning visuals while further exploring these characters' journeys. The film raises the stakes while delving deeper into themes of power and religion, and as much as I loved the first Dune, this exceeds it in every way. The Hans Zimmer score, which I loved in Part One, is even better. Austin Butler, as Feyd-Rautha, is menacing. I still have yet to see him in anything else, including Elvis, but if he was able to masterfully portray Elvis and also become this cutthroat, ruthless killing machine, that's impressive, and he’ll be around for a long time. The visuals are obviously insane; so is the acting, direction, story, and so on – you get the point. It’s perfection from a technical filmmaking standpoint. Watching this in a completely sold-out Dolby theater of probably around 350 people was such a great experience.
Paul Atreides: "May thy knife chip and shatter."
Feyd-Rautha: "May thy knife chip and shatter."
The crowd was completely silent during every tense moment and was left in stunned silence when the credits rolled. Nobody even got out of their seats for the first 30 seconds after the movie ended. I think Denis Villenueve’s Dune is this generation’s Star Wars, and we are witnessing an all-time classic trilogy unfolding in front of us. I’m glad that in like 50 years or something when I have grandkids and they’re watching this in the same fashion that we watch The Empire Strikes Back, I’ll be able to say I saw that at least three times in theaters (I already have tickets to see it again). I’m a sci-fi fan, and this is a sci-fi masterpiece. I’m trying not to overhype it too much, but I genuinely feel like Part Two is one of the greatest films I’ve ever seen so far. I can’t wait for Part Three, and I highly recommend watching this in theaters! It deserves to be seen on the biggest screen possible. Time to check out The Zone of Interest and Drive-Away Dolls. I also have one more film to review from my trip to the theater a couple of days ago.
