Spider-Man: No Way Home

Goddamit.

For all the flaws I could sit here and nitpick all day long, all the fan-service that gets super egregious at times and all the shoddy VFX and the wet cement color grading and this and that and everything, I'm still just really shocked at how well they pulled this off into one coherent movie.

There's an emotional core here about the fundamental tragedy in Peter Parker's character that really really moved me. Seeing the worlds of these three generations of the character come together in unexpectedly poignant ways was genuinely so so satisfying and conclusive and rewarding and all the other great adjectives. I teared up, I laughed, I cheered till my lungs couldn't breathe, I clapped till my hands were as red as Spidey's costume. It's really not perfect at all but it is genuinely as good as a movie of this scale and ambition can be. Maybe even better.

Tom Holland's finest hour. Spidey forever.
