“There are 206 bones in the human body. 207 if I’m watching Gossip Girl.”
What do you get when you mix a comedic maniac and the most manly superhero out there? You get Deadpool & Wolverine. What an experience this was, easily the best theater trip of the year, every seat was occupied, screening was full and audiences were cheering. One could call this a nostalgia-bait film or a cameo fest and it definitely is those two things but damn is it fun and exciting. The film succeeds at giving us a love letter to the Fox-era of marvel heroes and they delivered above and beyond our expectations. This is arguably the best film since Endgame and we finally see a return to form for the MCU so let’s hope we can only go up from here. Sure, the plot is all over the place and there isn’t a direct linear story as it tries to balance a lot at once but who cares? It’s a film about two buddies going after old buddies whilst traveling through realities, like fuck yes this is my fucking shit!
“Welcome to the MCU. You’re ing at a bit of a low point.”
Wade Wilson you’re right, Logan is ing at a low point but you guys have turned it around and delivered the most fun I’ve had this year in a theater. This is breaking box office records for a reason, it’s an assemble of a phenomenal cast and characters, the billion dollar success is on the way and we can only hope we get more from this duo in the near future. This is a blast from the very first minute, the opening credits scene is so exciting and sets the level for what kind of film we’re heading into, it’s one of the most creative openings I’ve seen in a long time and one of the best scenes of the entire film. It’s insanely gory, violent, blood is shed, numerous fights with characters that have been forgotten, some unbelievable cameos and there’s one in particular that had my audience going crazy and I think we all know which one it is. The various Deadpool characters are a lot of fun and that fighting sequence in the alleyway between them and our leading duo is phenomenally well made, filled with style and insane choreography, great editing and a soundtrack that gives you the energy to match the film. I loved this and it’s my favorite Deadpool film.
“Get my country’s name out of your fucking mouth!”
The cultural references in this film are bigger and better than ever before, every other line is referencing something iconic, a moment in pop culture and as a man of culture I was able to recognize almost everything, there’s just so much to laugh at, it surely is the funniest film I’ve seen this year and the funniest of the franchise, had me smiling throughout its entire runtime, the humor here is my cup of tea and I’m not ashamed to it such thing, I’m happy and proud.
“I am the Messiah. I am Marvel Jesus.”
Ryan Reynolds might honestly be The Marvel Jesus by currently saving Disney from another box office failure and giving us one of the years most financially successful films. He’s Deadpool in every way and continues to portray the character perfectly and he’s no different here, a whole lot of fun and his comedic timing is perfection. Hugh Jackman will forever play Wolverine till he’s 90 and I’m fine with that, we all know him for that character and so much nostalgia is induced in this film, especially since he’s wearing the yellow suit and for the first time ever he slaps on the mask for us. Emma Corrin makes for a great villain and her portrayal of Cassandra Nova is surprisingly great, a fearful character that is cold-blooded but also has a sense of humor to her. Not going to mention any other cast as I don’t want to spoil anything about who’s returning but everyone involved you could tell had the time of their life making this and were all great.
Shawn Levy was the right man to direct this, it maybe doesn’t have the same creativity as Tim Miller or David Leitch but he’s able to bring something really unique and exciting to the screen making it one heck of a journey. The editing here is really good and the VFX are phenomenal. The soundtrack looks like something taken out of a Spotify Hits Playlist but damn does it hit, “Bye Bye Bye” goes incredibly well with the opening scene and “Like a Prayer” is Peak and I’ve been playing it myself ever since. Thank you Marvel for delivering this to us, allowing people to create great memories with a great film.
