Dune: Part Two

2024

Dune was one of many highlights of 2021 — a year all about Hollywood’s journey to recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. With its success, a sequel based on the second half of the 1965 novel was imminent. It won six of its ten Oscars nominations, and it deserved it. Even if it was delayed from November 2023 to March 2024, I was absolutely excited for it. It’s now opening weekend, and I just got done watching it in IMAX, my third time watching a movie in that format. Holy motherfucking shit. As of me typing this, I’m literally shaking and crying.

Denis Villeneuve one ups himself and makes a sequel that’s bigger and more grandiose than its predecessor, which was already awesome enough. This might just be a top 5 film in his career. It’s a sci-fi epic that is, in my opinion, in vein of twentieth century epics such as Ben-Hur, Lawrence of Arabia and The Ten Commandments. And thanks to its stellar ensemble cast and Villeneuve’s direction and impeccable screenplay, it’s among many things that carry the film to a well-deserved victory.

The visual effects are absolutely outstanding and beautiful and Greig Fraser’s outstanding and stunning cinematography made me want to cry, alongside Hans Zimmer’s incredible score. Many other things were improved from its predecessor, such as the editing, sound design, costumes, makeup and hairstyling, and its scale help make this movie standout from most other sci-fi films that have come out in recent years. Hell, I’ll go on to say that it might be better than both Avatar movies in their own ways.

A technical marvel filled with incredible visuals, impeccable storytelling, outstanding performances from the star-studded cast, beautiful cinematography, and stellar sound design, Dune: Part Two is a grandiose sci-fi epic that I had an absolutely spectacular time watching. It’s easily my favorite film of 2024 so far. I very strongly urge each and every one of you to watch this film as soon as you possibly can. Go watch it in IMAX for the best possible experience. I’m still shocked by how marvelous this movie is. It must be seen to be believed, and I literally mean it. Long live the fighters!
