21 Jump Street

Ice Cube owns the best scenes and Channing Tatum needs to be in more comedies.

I rewatched this for the first time since it came out and I it being a lot funnier in the theaters, it's only been 7 years but this will stand the test of time better as a cop movie than as a comedy.

Rob Riggle being an alpha in jail, the fight with Jillian Bell and Ice Cube's reaction to the reveal with his daughter are 3 of the funniest pieces of comedy I've seen.

The first Jump Street weaved in a surprisingly good cop story in the middle of a high school comedy. This sequel turns out to be funnier and one of the best movies about college friendships and couple relationships: making new friends, growing apart, getting back together, the themes…

This Is the End

I love this movie because it doesn't shy away from its silly concept. You often have stories that ground their "out of the box" idea into reality, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Snakes on a Plane comes to mind, they never gets crazy enough for me to believe in the world or the characters they've created so I never buy into their silly premise. This is the End keeps getting weirder as the movie progresses: flying and giant demons, Pineapple…

mid90s

I can't quite nail Mid90s, it works for me as a series of vignettes but not as a cohesive movie.

The individual moments like Stevie sneaking in his brother's room and iring all the hip-hop tapes, posters and streetwear, trying to fit in with the cool kids, the awkward flirting at house party, the other young kid in the group feeling threatened by Stevie... Those scenes felt authentic and a lot of is powered by the good performances but none…

Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle

It's pretty mediocre sober and just funny enough when under the influence. The best bit is Kumar's daydream with the bag of weed as his wife.

The story itself is fascinating but I honestly feel like it could have been a 1 hour documentary.

2006: I'm 19, I watch a bootleg of Miami Vice and I'm confused and disappointed.

2019: I listen to Blank Check's episode on Miami Vice. I've loved and lived since 2006, I decide to give it another chance

Miami Vice is one of the most intense undercover police dramas and has one of my favorite portrayal of love at first sight. I have fully converted to the church of Colin.

The movie is full of quotables but also amazing moments:…

Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is one of Tarantino's best, it might be too aimless for some but it hits a similar vibe as Jackie Brown; the overall mood of the movie is just cool and I want to hang out with these characters. Like Jackie Brown, I can see this one aging like fine wine and making its way to to the top of people's list when discussing Tarantino's filmography.

👍: Tarantino is now responsible for writing 2…

The Night Before

Michael Shannon as a drug-dealer is everything I ever wanted that I didn't know I needed.

This really took me by surprise, it's nothing groundbreaking but it's an underrated stoner comedy. The main trio have good chemistry and they all have charisma, the jokes keep rolling at a steady pace and Seth Rogen tripping on all sorts of drugs is some of the funniest physical comedy I've seen. Minus 1 star for giving Jillian Bell nothing funny to do.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw

2019

It's too loud, it's too dumb, it's too long.

It's a poor man's Mission Impossible. The fight choreography looks good but the camera cuts too much, moves around a lot and is too zoomed in, I can't pay attention to these fight sequences in a post-John Wick world.

It's too cartoony, everyone seems invincible, the rapple-down fight against the skyscraper felt like a Looney Toons episode.

But with all that said, this thing had potential, and it's peppered with flashes…

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure

1989

★★ Rewatched

I enjoy dumb stoner movie but this one just didn't do it for me... I being mildly amused the first time I watched it in high school and decided to revist it in honor of the Keanunaissance but also because the 3rd one is around the corner and this movie seem is looked at veryfondly by a lot of people. I just got bored by it once they started time-traveling; switched it off soon after Napoleon s them.

One of the funniest stoner movie, James Franco, Seth Rogen and Danny McBride at the top of their game.

Favorite moments:
-The fight with Danny McBride and the on-going gag with him not dying no matter how much of a beating he receives.
-The dinner scene with Seth Rogen and his girlfriend's family. The entire bit playing throughout the moviewith him having a high school girlfriend is great.
-James Franco earnestly thinking his friendship with Seth is more than what it really is.
