As tragic as it is to it it we’ve gotten a lot of docs on this topic in recent years, and while this does a good job at surfacing personal stories and interview relevant people, it doesn’t quite stand out in that crowd to me.
Caution: very graphic content
It’s frustrating because the topic of working conditions for illegal migrators is important to raise but this doc does not do it justice. Footage range from interviews to news casts to body cams and everything in between. It tries to bring up larger systemic issues while also showcasing very specific cases and the two does not really balance out well. Everything from sound levels to background and storytelling shifts around rapidly and it ends up being a strain to try and follow along.
The way they throw kids around in this doc had me on the edge of my seat
Beautiful shots of the surrounding nature but the subject and the angle they chose to reflect on it is wildly uninteresting
Interesting topic but this doc really doesn’t do it justice, everything felt very surface level and kinda brushed over even with the 90+ minute runtime. Makes me wonder if this would have been better suited as a short doc.
The metaphor here is stretched a bit too thin for my liking but the life story and more importantly the poetry helps carry this.
An incredibly structured and systematic historical look at racism in America

I gotta it that the first half of this I wasn’t quite onboard with, felt a slight lack of focus and struggled to grasp the timeframe.
Then the second half rocks up and completely knocks me. Having seen this nasty decease up close this definitely struck a chord. It’s displayed in an honest and naked way that shows not only the patient but also their loved ones and how it affects everyone around. Brutal.
