I watched the original Yours, Mine and Ours a few months ago and let me just say… we have strayed far from the path.

This remake makes the inexplicable choice to center the story around the kids, all 18 of them, each with the personality depth of a breakfast cereal mascot. I’m sorry, but I do not have the bandwidth to care about this many teenagers' drama when I can barely my own cousins' names.

The original (with actual legends Henry Fonda and Lucille Ball) focused on the adult relationship — you know, the people getting married? And it worked! It was grounded, charming, and felt like a story about blending lives. This? This is a Nickelodeon food fight stretched into a feature film.

And let’s talk about the party plot. They’re gonna get divorced because the kids threw a party while they were out of town? Please. Every teen in history has thrown a party when their parents leave — it’s literally the plot of every teen movie ever. This isn't a crisis. This is Tuesday.

Rene Russo does what she can, but Dennis Quaid looks like he’s trying to if he left the oven on in every scene. Fonda and Ball had chemistry, presence, and emotional weight. These two have… a lighthouse?

My Review of the 1968 Film

Yeah, I’ve watched it that much. Officially logged 8 times — unofficially? I’ve probably watched it enough to qualify for a Bo Burnham PhD. At this point, it’s less a viewing experience and more a spiritual check-in.

This isn’t just a comedy special. It’s a painfully accurate emotional exorcism that somehow jammed eight years of my thoughts, fears, and doomscrolling despair into 90 neon-lit, synth-heavy minutes. Burnham didn’t just make art during lockdown — he cracked open a mirror and asked us to smile into the shards.

“Can anyone shut the fuck up?” — Four years later, and it's practically a global anthem.

Thank you, Bo, for capturing the inside of our collective heads better than therapy ever could.

This movie is... alright. I genuinely ire Pamela Anderson for stepping outside her comfort zone and taking on a more serious role — that takes guts. But unfortunately, her performance just doesn’t quite land for me.

The plot itself is a bit sluggish, and while I don’t want to be harsh, I found myself wishing for a more compelling lead. Honestly, Dave Bautista might have done a better job in this role — and that’s saying something. I respect the effort, but overall, this one fell flat.

Tried to watch like three movies tonight — bailed on all of them because they sucked. I mean, Severance sucks too, but at least it's somewhat watchable... until it isn't. The deeper I get, the worse it gets.

As a social experiment: how far into a bad movie do you stick it out? I'm 55 minutes into a 95-minute runtime. Do I finish it just to say I did, or save myself the 40 minutes and some dignity?

A visually compelling and well-acted drama, The Brutalist tells a fascinating story, but it’s weighed down by a muddled script and questionable character motivations. Adrien Brody delivers a strong-strong performance (despite my lingering cringe from that Oscar speech), and the ensemble is excellent—though Felicity Jones being second-billed and absent for over an hour feels like false advertising.

Also, note to all filmmakers: yellow subtitles on light backgrounds are a war crime.

There’s even a 60-second “intermission” that’s more insulting than helpful.

Still, despite its flaws and bloated runtime, there’s something irable about its ambition. Just wish the script had gotten the same attention as the set design.

Caveat - I'm seeing MI:TFR this weekend. No spoilers please, my LB peeps.

But I have some personal thoughts about the franchise I'd like to share.

It’s the night before Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two (aka The Final Reckoning) and I’m feeling all kinds of sentimentality and nostalgia. Can you believe this franchise has been in my life for 25 years? I saw the original in theaters back in ’96—yeah, I’m old as fuck—and I still that iconic gum-in-the-fishtank moment like it was yesterday.

I didn’t know then that we were witnessing the start of something legendary, but when Ethan Hunt made that tank explode, I was basically Morty: “You son of a bitch, I’m in.” I've rewatched the series more times than I can count and had a blast every single time.

No spoilers yet—just appreciation for a franchise that’s still running (and sprinting) strong. Let’s do this, Ethan.

Companion is just a blast—plain and simple. I had an awesome time with this one. Sophie Thatcher keeps proving she’s the real deal, and Jack Quaid is finally carving out his own lane. Sure, the whole “nepo baby” wave in Hollywood is a thing (a rant for another day), but both leads absolutely earn their screen time here.

As for going in spoiler-free? I knew the twist going in and still had a great time catching all the little hints, but I totally get the appeal of diving in blind. Either way, it's a ride worth taking.

My fourth foray into the Bergman oeuvre and Cries and Whispers might be the most visually striking yet. The deep reds 🔴🔴 practically bleed off the screen, and every frame 🖼 is composed with such deliberate care. The script is haunting in that classic Bergman way—emotional wounds laid bare in a house full of silence and suppressed screams. The ending felt a little rushed, but the overall impact will be something I'm feeling for a long time. Another powerful, unsettling gem from the master.

Heretic starts with a compelling premise but ultimately sacrifices its intrigue for a third act that feels like it was written during a fever dream. It’s kind of dumb, but at least it’s entertainingly dumb. Hugh Grant gets points for stepping way outside his comfort zone, even if the script leaves him stranded. Meanwhile, Sophie Thatcher proves again she’s one of the most electric young talents in the game (Hollywood? Atlanta? Vancouver? Who even knows anymore). Bonus trivia: both Thatcher and Chloe East were raised Mormon—maybe that’s what helped them play this so straight until the chaos kicked in.

It’s a decent courtroom thriller with Nicholas Hoult proving he’s got real leading man chops. The film clearly wants to channel 12 Angry Men, but trades subtle tension for a handful of contrivances that border on the ridiculous. The script is middling, with plot turns that feel more convenient than convincing, but it’s still an enjoyable watch overall. Could’ve shaved 15 minutes and tightened things up, but it mostly holds your attention—even if your eyebrows get a workout from all the disbelief suspension

This marks my third exploration of Ingmar Bergman’s oeuvre.

I watched The Seventh Seal, aka “that black-and-white movie where a knight plays chess with Death.” It’s one of those films you feel like you should watch once in your life, like reading Moby-Dick or assembling IKEA furniture without crying.

Let’s start with the positives: Ingmar Bergman sure knows how to frame an existential crisis. The film is visually stunning, the kind of bleak beauty that makes you want to stare at the sea and ponder mortality (but, like, in a cool artsy way). Max von Sydow is stoic and soulful, Death is oddly charismatic for a skeleton-faced board game enthusiast, and the plague has never looked so poetic.

But here’s the thing—I kept hearing The Seventh Seal had “dark humor.” And I don’t know if it’s the translation, the Swedish stoicism, or my own Neanderthal-level art appreciation, but a lot of the humor felt like it ed me by on a horse-drawn cart.

That said, I liked the movie. I didn’t love it. It’s like having a deep conversation with someone much smarter than you—profound, impressive, but also kind of exhausting. I appreciate what Bergman’s saying about life and death.

Final verdict: It’s not a popcorn movie, but it’s the kind of film that lingers in your brain like a dream you didn’t understand but felt important. And that final dance of death? I found it haunting and weirdly beautiful.

The music choices were interesting and unusually but I was definitely going with them for most of the film.

I didn't know what was going on for the first 30 min but it didn't really matter. This film is fucking tight and Dunst is underrated.

I know this is common knowledge now and kind of a joke, but until I turned on the subtitles, if you asked me what Ali Larter's characters name was, I would have bet $1,000,000 it was Claire.

Mostly a blast with some great memorable deaths. About 15 minutes too long.

Florence Pugh is awesome.

Despite the fact that a lot of the humor wasn't hitting for me, I was enjoying the first two acts. But the 3rd act went into overdrive for me. I loved-loved the 3rd act. It felt like something non-Marvel and fresh.

I've never seen this but wanted to check it out in theaters for the 40th anniversary. I as a kid being scared as hell of that poster, lol.

Re-Animator was pretty much what I expected and wanted, a gory 80s B-Movie with pseudo zombies, ridiculous plotlines, a serum colored like radioactive slime, and some LOL moments. And a character throwing a psycho zombie cat against a wall.

The performances are really solid and the script is tight. I thought Colman Domingo was fantastic in the new Netflix series, The Four Seasons. I wanted to check out more of his work and he did not disappoint. Clarence Maclin, also credited as a screenwriter, really gave a good performance as well. Loved that they used some of the real actors from the original prison productions.

Decided to re-watch this in conjunction with the fantastic new Netflix series which was created by Tina Fey and based on this film, which was written and directed by Alan Alda.

Definitely enjoyable and, despite having four distinct chapters, doesn't overstay it's welcome and moves along with a tight 1hr 47min runtime. I almost never say this, but I could have used a bit more.

I still find the posters for this unintentionally hilarious.

A lot of death, fraud, and lying going on in this one. Certainly not a great film, but there are worse ways to spend 90 minutes. Free on Tubi.

Ugh, one of the most boring films I've ever seen.

I can sum up this film in 2 scenes. There's about a minute long close-up scene of Chloe Sevigny cutting up a pineapple. And I get it, they wanted to show she is straight-laced, which is in contrast to the daughter, whom wants to rebel. But a minute long!

The second scene is another close-up hands scene of the protagonist unwrapping corded iPhone earbuds that lasts about 45 seconds. First of all, why do super rich people still use wired earbuds? Second, why is 45 seconds! UGH!

The most frustrating thing about the movie is that it's filmed really well, framed well, I loved the lighting and the filters used by the director. And the acting is great, too, but the script is just abysmal.

Definitely one of the creepiest and scariest movies I've seen in the past 10 years.

I have a bunch of notes, but I think it's way better to go into this complete spoiler-free. I will add this movie is creepy asf with great filming locations and does an incredible job of towing the line between whether there are supernatural elements of the film or not.

After watching the 2003 version, I decided to check out the original 1976 film with Jodie Foster. She has the same charm 50 years later as she did in 1976.

The movie is ok, a notch below the 2003 version for me. They do get right to the body swap, vs. the 2003 version takes time for some character development prior to the swap.

As ridiculous as they are, I always enjoy these body swap movies. This one is so 90s with a terrible Britney Spears cover that the characters seem to love, classic 90s grunge music, a terrible haircut for Jaime Lee Curtis, among many others.

Imagine if you saw some creepy kid in your neighborhood screaming a Britney Spears song at the top of his lungs? Instant police call.

Body Swap Films, Ranked By Me

Man, I haven't seen this in years and that opening Russian scene is jarring. Between this and You've Got Mail., Hanks was really into pro-capitalist propaganda.

The movie starts getting great around the 20 minute mark, with just Hanks and Hunt, then Hanks, then Hanks and Hunt again.

A sweet and charming film about an aging group of fisherwomen in Korea who free dive to catch scallops and sea urchins, among other seafood. The film does touch on some important climate and environmental issues in the 2nd act, but it's mostly about the women's lives.

I've never watched 28 Days Later or 28 Weeks Later, but I thought it would be a good year to get into them with the new film coming out in August.

I found the beginning of the film a bit slow but slowly leads up a great 3rd act. I'm really looking forward to watching the next 2 installments.

I love this movie more and more every time I watch it. I decided to bump up on my favorite films list from #10 to #3.

I can't believe I haven't watched this until now, but the runtime seemed a little daunting.

I'm not a shill for Peacock, but it was kinda cool that they front-loaded the ads and then showed the entire film ad-free, even with the cheapest subscription package.

Ervivo and Grande are both absolutely superb, with great direction from Chu. Obviously a banging score and soundtrack, with great choreography. Only drawback for me was at times it did feel like the movie was shooting on a set.

I wish this was Rated R and they just went for the violence, but what do I know? There were a lot of dumb contrivances to move the plot along (coffee shop photo), but I had fun with this, particularly the prison scene.

Oh boy, just realized I'm about 20 movies behind on ratings and reviews!

I never played the games and I thought this was alright. Decent runtime for an innocuous sci-fi action film. If you like other Anderson/Jovovich ts, you'll probably enjoy this one. It's some nice filler time for a movie that you'll forget about in a few weeks.

For the first 45 minutes or so, I was really going with this movie, but alas, it did not last. The film fell into the same tired, terrible, and clichéd tropes that every musical biopic falls into. Unearned motivations. Useless and contrived women plotlines. And the worst of all: moving away from the music in favor of terrible dramatic plotlines. Ugh, by the end I was actively hating this movie and by the time Edward Norton was giving that seesaw monologue, I was completely checked out (sorry Edward, but that was awful). I'm not surprised this lost all of the 8 nominations, but also, how TF was this nominated for 8 Oscars?

On my 4th watch, I'm finally bumping up to 4.5🌟. Just a fantastic film with great world-building, unreal effects, and one of the greatest scores of all-time by Zimmer. For a 2hr 45min+ film, I was not bored for 1 second.

Aldomovar sets a great mood and atmosphere. For a large portion of the film I was half-expecting a genre turn or even see some supernatural elements. I give Aldomovar, Moore, and Swinton a lot of credit for that.

An absolute fucking banger! Coogler gives a master class in building tension with a tremendous edge-of-your-seat 3rd act.

The way Coogler constructs the world-building and character development while simultaneously creating this sense of oncoming dread is outstanding.

I guess Eckhart is deeply entrenched in the Liam Neeson/Nic Cage/Bruce Willis before he retired business of doing these cheap, poorly made action films. In the last few years he has done films called Wander, Ambush, Muzzle, Rumble Through the Dark, The Bricklayer, Chief of Station (which I did see and is equally as bad, and now, Classified.

Ah well, I guess it beats the hell out of getting a real job.

#7 on my Favorite Films List

Pretty much the same feelings as The Evil Dead. These films just don't do much for me for whatever reason. With a budget roughly 10 times The Evil Dead, Raimi does ramp up the gore and action, but to me it just felt like more of the same.

"Go ahead and get some sleep." - ... in this room by yourself while a demon tries to escape from the basement. LOL, no way is anyone sleeping that night.

In my last review from 2020, HERE, I mentioned I wasn't a fan of gore. I guess my tastes have changed as it doesn't bother me much and I actually enjoyed a lot of it in The Substance.

But I've tried to give these Evil Dead films a chance, and I think they're not for me.

No surprise this is the worst of the trilogy. I found most of this unimaginative as a lot of the plot is rehashed from the first two. The runtime (1hr 45min) is definitely a plus, but the action is just as weak as the first two.

I enjoyed this during this rewatch that I have on any previous other. I think even moreso than when I original saw in theaters back in 2013. I'm not really sure why, but I had a lot of fun on this watch. I do wish they pursued the PTSD factor a bit more, I've always thought that was an interesting aspect you don't see much in superhero films.
