Haven’t seen the Danish original which I have to imagine based on reputation alone is a much bleaker, more artfully cynical affair. So it’s very possible this is simply another American bastardization of a solid Eurohorror concept, but not gonna lie doing Funny Games and Straw Dogs as a twisty multiplex popcorn thriller was fun with a packed house. McAvoy is a hoot and relishes every opportunity to turn the uncomfortable comedy of manners stuff (tensely and playfully targeting our instinct towards obeying social norms even when it's illogical) into something weird and primal.
