Trouble Every Day

2001

★★★★ Liked

A beautiful and gentle film that erupts without notice into some of the most horrifying violence I’ve ever seen depicted onscreen. The way Denis moves the camera over entwined bodies in extreme closeup makes it nearly impossible to tell exactly where you are and has the resulting effect of ambiguating physical forms into one unknowable flesh. The story is vague and occasionally untraceable but the one thing that is clear is there’s no one better equipped to play a guy who has fucked up his honeymoon in the most deranged way possible than Vincent Gallo.
