I liked this when it came out, but I actually love it this time around. I know we see a certain kind of movie or movie ending and go “man! I got shymaland again!” but he’s really got some great films. There’s probably a fine line between a director trademark, and a director simply imitating what works in their previous work. Given that Shymalan does genre films, it’s probably easier to lump him into the imitation category, but that’s as dismissive of genre films as the Oscars are! I’m not saying he’s never made a dud, but I am saying a few duds does not a bad director make! Bottom line, I’ve been wanting to revisit this film all week, and I’m pumped that I did.
