zannendayo’s review published on Letterboxd:
The comedic bits were pretty funny, particularly the slapstick Stooges humor comprising the bulk of the middle of the film. However, in part because much of the film was dominated by such, the dramatic parts were quite lacking.
Whatever poignant point was trying to be made about Anora’s life and character came through a fuzzy TV signal, resulting in any attempt at an intricate vision for the character being reduced to a simplistic outline. This was especially so in the last 10-15 minutes, which felt unnecessary and just dragged the film along.
My issues with the screenplay aside, the acting was phenomenal, particularly by Mikey Madison.
