Lucas’s review published on Letterboxd:
Watched it this time in a much smaller venue and it's insane how much this benefits from a huge screen and huge sound system. Still had a great time, but it was certainly less jaw-dropping.
Some of my favorite moments the second time around:
• The guerilla warfare moments are so sick. The first harvester takedown is flat out cool and exciting, and the silent precision of the Fremen taking down Rabban's Harkonnen squad in the haze had me holding my breath.
• The shots of tiny Paul running along the crest of the sand dune to ride a sand worm. He's an ant in comparison. The whole movie conveys scale so effectively.
• "Silence!"
• When Paul shouts "That's not hope" at Jessica, it's such a startling moment. We're so used to him being soft-spoken that the outburst is stunning.
• The first time through I think Feyd Rautha was my favorite character to watch, but this time around it was Lady Jessica and Stilgar.
I love how Stilgar starts off as this sorta funny ive guy and then as the film progresses you realize he's a religious fanatic and your feelings take a turn towards dread (this emotional turn is relevant to a lot of characters and moments in the film), and Lady Jessica is so unnerving and sinister the whole time. She's a real Bene Gesserit.
• The sequence where Lady Fenring seduces Feyd Rautha is incredible. The flashing lights from the inky fireworks, the distorted visuals and vocals, the whispered delivery amidst a booming and overwhelming score -- it's just... *chef's kiss*
